Compare and Contrast: Dec. of Independence and Martin Luther's Speech
Both Declaration of Independence and Martin Luther's speech talk about equality but there are also major differences between the two. For example, the Declaration of Independence talks about equality of people who are different, just like the speech, but it is mostly aimed towards the government and freedom of everyone rather than blacks in specific. Though the Declaration talks about equality, it had little or no effect on the behavior of people and the government because it wasn't until Martin Luther King's speech that black's equality was even questioned by most people. This is somewhat rediculus considering that the speech came nearly 200 years after the Declaration. Martin Luther's speech talked about a new image where all races are equal and we can all live under a perfect mix. Nevertheless his speech did in fact help tremendously to achieve this goal, unlike the Declaration. It is clear that nothing can just be stated in a document and be implemented. There must always be a fight, no matter how long that takes.
